For the second week in a row, opponents of the Mississippi state flag – including Black Lives Matter protesters – and supporters converged to demonstrate at the entrance of the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg on August 20, 2017. Unlike the previous week, protesters were separated to opposite sites of the front gate after a meeting with University Police. The protests were peaceful, with the only disturbance coming after an infiltrator attempted to “troll” the opponents of the flag by showing up with a cartoon painting of Pepe the Frog – a well known white supremacist symbol for the internet era. The infiltrator was quickly removed by UPD.
